An Urgent Care Unit is also part of the Chemainus Heath Care Centre and
provides assessment and treatment responding to minor trauma. It operates from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. daily, with local doctors on call. There is always an RN on site. Adjacent to the Urgent Care Unit are a laboratory, an X-ray room and physiotherapy services operating during day-time hours.

These services are very important to the residents of Chemainus and surrounding area. Without them residents would have to travel elsewhere for urgent care or X-ray and laboratory service, which is not always possible for some, particularly the elderly. Having these services in the community also reduces the frequency of costly ambulance transfers.
The Foundation continues to provide funding to purchase supplies and
equipment for the benefit of residents. The most significant purchase was a new X-ray machine costing over 200,000.00 dollars, funded in 2011 by Foundation with assistance from the Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary. In 2016 the Foundation donated $50,000.00 in support of a new image processor for the X-ray. Other purchases have included items such as an ECG machine, an audiometer, baby scales, a cast cutter and new furniture for the waiting rooms.
Keeping these services in the community is important. The need is on-going.
