In response to community priorities, the Chemainus Health Care Foundation donated land and raised $250,000.00 to spearhead the construction of Steeples, an assisted living complex in Chemainus that opened in 2007. The Steeples Housing Society was then created to manage the facility in partnership with BC Housing and Island Health. Steeples has 16 suites and a capacity of up to 32 residents. Residents receive two meals daily meals, house cleaning, laundry and access to many recreational activities and events.
More recently the Foundation granted additional land to the Housing Society that enabled the construction of three independent apartments known as the “Courtyard” adjacent to the main complex.
The Chemainus Health Care Foundation continues to support the facility as assisted living housing is a continuum of health care.
The Chemainus Health Care Foundation collects and distributes any funds donated to Steeples.
